PPM Power is a leading UK specialist distributor of components and systems for high voltage, pulsed power and power electronics. More recently the company’s engineers have also been actively supporting customers accelerate their development processes with integrated components for power conversion.
PPM has developed cold plates which offer integrated cooling of the power modules, DC link capacitor and busbar used in a typical power conversion system. The new cold plates have been designed to meet specific customer requirements for thermal performance and pressure drop.
Thomas Walkeden, Mechanical Design Engineer at PPM, commented: “Working closely with both APCS and suppliers for cold plates and thermal interface materials, we are able to offer high thermal performance designs which increase the lifespan of the DC link capacitor and which can be designed to integrate into a customer’s system.”
PPM’s customers can choose from a range of standard Power Ring capacitors and test kits with integrated busbars to get started. The mission profile can then be developed with the customer, focusing on application- specific control, filtering and other mission profile tasks, which can be shared with the engineering team. A customised and minimised dc link capacitor, busbar and cooling solution is then produced to meet required specifications.
Popular modules supported include SanRex Techno Block, ABB RoadPak, Microsemi SP6Li and industry standard 62mm devices.
